Giving Guide

I encourage churches to consider publishing a giving guide. It helps people understand why Christians give on a regular basis.

Look around you here at (name) Church. What do you see?

Vibrant worship, drama, and dance; creative children’s programs and activities; youth being impacted for eternity; families finding Jesus and transformation; people being healed and set free from lifelong bondages; impactful teaching and preaching through services, courses, and seminars; disciples developed; leaders birthed and released; people getting out of debt; nations touched and changed.

It’s only possible because (name) Church is supported by the faithful tithes and offerings of our regular attendees. Without you, it would be impossible to help people become fully developing followers of Jesus.

Imagine what would happen if 100% of (name) regular attendees took the step to become regular givers. These are a few things that are possible.
• Expansion of current ministries
• Creation of new ministries
• More lives radically changed
• More families strengthened
• Greater impact on our city

Did You Know…
The Bible teaches us that givers are the most blessed people in the earth. Here are just a few things that God says about giving in the Bible.

1. Faithful giving draws me closer to God.
“Wherever your treasure is, there your heart and thoughts will be also” – Matthew 6:21

2. Faithful giving is the key to a full life.
“Tell them to use their money to do good. They should be rich in good works and should give generously…By doing this they will be storing up their treasure as a good foundation for the future so that they may take hold of real life.” – 1 Timothy 6:18-19

3. Faithful giving blesses me in return.
“Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.” – Malachi 3:10

4. Faithful giving makes me happy.
“There is more happiness in giving than in receiving” – Acts 20:35

5. Faithful giving reminds me that everything belongs to God.
“But remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you the ability to produce wealth” – Deuteronomy 8:18

6. Faithful giving is a sign of Christian maturity
“Wherever your treasure is, there your heart and thoughts will be also” – Matthew 6:21

7. Faithful givers walk in obedience to God.
“Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse… – Malachi 3:9-10

8. Faithful giving of our best is a sign of worship to Christ.
And going into the house they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh. Matthew 2:11

How Much Should I Give?
Giving was practiced by believers in both the Old Testament and New Testament. Before the Law was given, Abel (Genesis 4), Abraham(Genesis 14), and Jacob(Genesis 28) all gave God various one-time amounts of their wealth. The Law prescribed various times the nation of Israel were to give that added up to a tithe or ten percent of their increase (Leviticus 27:30-34; Deuteronomy 14:22-29; Nehemiah 12:44; Malachi 3:8-12).  In the New Testament, Jesus affirmed Old Testament tithing (Matthew 23:23), and the early church practiced generosity (Acts 4:34-5:11; 1 Corinthians 16:1-2; 2 Corinthians 8:1-5; 2 Corinthians 9:6-7; 1 Timothy 6:18-19).

Giving is a biblical principle that affirms all we have belongs to God and is to be given to advance the fame of God’s name in the place a person worships (Malachi 3). Today, that means we ought to be giving first to the local church.

Is My Gift Tax Deductible?
All contributions are tax-deductible. Tax receipts are issued at the end of each calendar year for gifts totaling over $100. To be issued a tax receipt, your gifts must be given with your current name and address.
