Ungodly Beliefs

As believers, our mind is moving to a place of being able to think as God thinks, of seeing and understanding the truth, and of being able to walk in the wisdom and understanding of God.

Our mind (physical brain) receives and processes information from the outside world and our past experience – then helps us make decisions accordingly and moves us to action.

We all have lies in our mind…as a result of being taught lies, as a result of hardening ourselves against the truth, and as a result of believing lies as a result of our experiences about God, ourselves, and others.

Experience – Belief – Expectation – Behavior

God wants us to come to the place where we see and believe his perspective of the world – the truth.

Romans 12:2 NASB  And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

Ephesians 4:20-25 NASB  But you did not learn Christ in this way,  (21)  if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught in Him, just as truth is in Jesus,  (22)  that, in reference to your former manner of life, you lay aside the old self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit,  (23)  and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind,  (24)  and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.  (25)  Therefore, laying aside falsehood, SPEAK TRUTH EACH ONE of you WITH HIS NEIGHBOR, for we are members of one another.

Philippians 4:8 NASB  Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.

How do we identify a lie in our mind & see it changed into the truth

Proactive

  • Get into the Bible: Read, listen, memorize, meditate, study.
  • God’s work performs a supernatural change in us.

1 Thessalonians 2:13 NASB  For this reason we also constantly thank God that when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but for what it really is, the word of God, which also performs its work in you who believe.

Psalm 1:2  But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night.

Reactive

As we walk through life and recognize an area of weakness in ourselves, we will recognize lies we believe about ourselves.  The lie is often recognized as we walk in relationships (Proverbs 7:17).

Here’s How We Remove the Lie

1.Recognize the lie about myself…some common ones…(source: media, parents, friends, enemies)

  • I am not acceptable as God first created me to be.
  • I am ugly.  I look ugly.
  • I am only acceptable when I perform well (according to people’s expectations). My value is in what I do.
  • Making/keeping other people happy is the most important thing in life.
  • I am not loveable as I am.
  • God is mad at me.

2.Repent / Forgiveness

  • walk through forgiveness for people who may have implanted lies into you (said or done to you)
  • ask God for forgiveness for believing the lie

3. Receive.

  • find out what the Bible teaches (actual verse, a principle, etc)
  • make it personal
  • meditate on it for thirty days or more…read it to yourself every day.  I find its good to put it on a recipe card.

Making Eternal Truth Personal.

God says, “(the truth)”

With His help, I choose to receive & believe that I am “the truth”

(don’t use negative – like “I am not bad” vs. “I am good”)

Eg. God says I am fearfully and wonderfully made.  With His help I choose to receive & believe I am loveable.
